TideSports.com … you can call me Dad.

by chris.rattey

The due date of the much anticipated birth of our new Web site is nearly here. Yes, we’ve kept it a secret. To be honest, it just happened so fast. So before we knew it, we carried to term and the day has arrived. To say we’re excited is putting it lightly. Before we move forward, I just want to let TideSports.com know that I love you more now than ever before. I want you to continue to grow and achieve, … Read More »

Do you own a Camaro? FREE PIZZA!

by chris.rattey

You don’t have to push the mullet behind your ears … you heard me correctly. If you are a Camaro owner, you can drive to any Papa John’s location today, August 26th, and get a free large one-topping pizza. Yup … short post. Just trying to spread some love. The story behind why this is happening is actually pretty cool. A site dedicated to the obsession with various car makes and models, Jalopnik, helped reunite Papa John Schnatter with his original Camaro. So … Read More »

Fantasy Football: My awesome draft highlights

by chris.rattey

So last weekend was our annual fantasy football draft. But we don’t do online. We’re spread out mostly on the eastern part of the country, and attendance at the draft is mandatory. So I was wheels down in Providence, R.I. on Friday night close to midnight and arrived at my buddy’s house in Southborough, Massachusetts close to 1 a.m. EST.

An optimistic look at the Crimson Tide, Vol. II

by chris.rattey

As stated in volume I of “An Optimistic Look at the Crimson Tide” in August of last year, I am an optimistic fellow. Again, it’s simply my genetic make-up. I’m not trying to be someone I am not, it’s simply the way it is. So take me as I am, Tide Nation. To reiterate quickly, last year’s edition stated that Alabama would win at least 10 games with a possible appearance in Atlanta against Florida. I don’t think anything else needs … Read More »

To the SEC with lots and lots of love

by chris.rattey

Hey SEC, You’ve taken your stance, and if this is the way you want to do this, so it goes. But you’re picking a fight. And guess what … I’m up for it. There will probably be some legal aspect to this whole thing, but I don’t care. I’m putting up my interwebs dukes. And I’ve got a GIANT crew with me. Trust me. You want it all. You want to take your millions and billions of dollars, climb into your ivory tower, … Read More »

BBT5: A letter to Nick Saban

by chris.rattey

Dear Coach Saban, I just wanted to touch base so you understood our intentions. We come in peace. Last week at SEC Media Days, TideSports.com attempted an old-school 5 exchange before you went upstairs to address the media and officially kick-off the 2009 football campaign. As you see in the video below, it didn’t work out as planned. But hear me out … I know it’s probably been a while since you’ve given anybody the straight-up 5, but I know you are … Read More »

A chat with Jay Barker

by chris.rattey

Another year, and another SEC Media Days in the books. I love the affair. I enjoy the fever. This year for the first time we streamed successfully from the internet/radio room at the Wynfrey Hotel in Hoover. Props to our team for moving that initiative since I had a hard time opening up e-mail in Yahoo. Yet there we were, for the first time ever, streaming head coach Nick Saban flawlessly just seconds after his words were spoken. … gotta love technology. But … Read More »

It’s time to turn up the burners

by chris.rattey

While we’ve been plugging away during this quiet offseason, it’s time to crank up the burners next week at the SEC Media Days and not slow down until sometime in January. It’s amazing how the pace goes from crawl to full-on sprint in a matter of hours. Each year it seems the SEC Media Days gets a bit more exciting. Let’s call it Hooverwood, as celebrities like Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, and Tim Tebow bounce around to the beat of flashing … Read More »

When baseball pants are too tight

by chris.rattey

Boston Red Sox fans knew what they were getting when management signed future Hall of Famer and former Atlanta Brave John Smoltz. Little did they know Smoltz would be bringing the sexy with him. Last Tuesday I was excited to sit down and watch Smoltz for the first time. I had missed his first start in a Sox uniform, thankfully. When I turned on the game against the Orioles and saw Smoltz on the hill, I settled in and put on … Read More »

Greatest idea ever?

by chris.rattey

This morning as I was tying my shoes getting ready to head out the door for the old grind, I saw one of the greatest ideas since IM and the Flowbee. On The Today Show, this guy with an artificial eye wants to outfit his fake peeper with a video camera. Wow. I’d do it. Don’t ask me twice. Take an eye, insert artificial camera eye, and away we go. Forget the helmet cam … The EYEBALL CAM? Fox would definitely be … Read More »
