Xbox Tourney a smashing success

by maskedblogger

If you weren’t at 12 Steakhouse this past Saturday, then you missed quite the production. We started at 11 a.m. with 64 competitors and four NCAA 2008 football games. Seven hours later, and one man stood strong — his name Jordan Whittington — owner of a brand new 32-inch HD LCD flatscreen. It was one of those marathon days when 2 p.m. felt like 11. The nerves were obvious at the start, as Master of Ceremonies Greg Lawson, in an attempt to get the crowed fired … Read More »

Joe Rockwell

by maskedblogger

I’m nearly recovered from a week in Graceland followed up by my fantasy football draft in a Connecticut casino. I’ve been recouping the last few days, and this XBox tourney is coming on Saturday… so time is of the essence. Thankfully, my coworker Steve sent over the last edition of Joe and the Chicken. The weekend was killer. My team is decent, could be outstanding. If Randy Moss can put together a campaign, the compliments of a Joseph Addai-Brian Westbook backfield could mean a trip … Read More »

Graceland: Weird, yet poignant

by maskedblogger

Man oh man… talk about bizarro world. It started yesterday with Graceland Too, a shrine to Elvis set up by this dude in Holly Springs, Mississippi, who is just simply off of his rocker. Here’s the lowdown, and I won’t get into much since it’s all online at Tuscaloosa News: Myself and features reporter Mark Hughes Cobb are in the midst of a road trip to Graceland, which is smack dab in the middle of Elvis Week. Today marks the 30th … Read More »

Razorbacks shaved

by maskedblogger

That’s what you look like when you miss an extra point. You think Jamie Christensen had to make a trip to the locker room for a little wardrobe change after that episode? Look deep into his eyes - you can see the fear. That’s not money – that’s debt. What was once a blowout turned into somewhat of a game in the Lighter Side’s third match of the virtual season. After leading 33-7, the Razorbacks got a couple “lucky” bounces and scored 20 unanswered points in … Read More »

Pilsner purgatory

by maskedblogger

Have I been punished somehow? Are the beer Gods handing me some sort of sentence for past consumption? Am I in some bizarre pilsner purgatory? I believe Ben Franklin, one of our forefathers who had the stones to strap a key to a kite during a lightning storm, said it best: “Beer is living proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.” Please don’t take offense here, I’m kind of joking and in no way mocking religion. Do what you want, be who you … Read More »

DOWN GOES VANDY!

by maskedblogger

achelor week continues: It was a heck of a day at the grind, it’s Friday night, the Red Sox are up 5-2, NFL preseason is on the tube, Arkansas awaits me for game 3 of the season, and I’ve got some cheap vino to keep me company amid this swealtering August evening. Life, shall we say, is good. So let’s talk about Vanderbilt for a second here. They’re a scrappy crew with some talent. That’s a team to watch out for early … Read More »

When the cat’s away, the thumbs shall play

by maskedblogger

My lovely wife and handsome 8-month old boy Jack have taken off for the great north to visit family and go to a baby shower. You know what that means? Seven days of slob. More importantly … it’s time to rock out NCAA2008 on my 360. I got the game last weekend … and I’m sure by now you all know about our tournament … and for the last few days I’ve been practicing and learning the ins and outs. This game is … Read More »

Steriods make your head bigger

by maskedblogger

As Barry Bonds climbs closer to that elusive record-breaking home run, knocking Hammerin’ Hank Aaron off his throne as the MLB Home Run King, let us take a visual look at how some MLB players have physically changed over the years. Barry Bonds Well… when they finally make the Barry Bonds story for the big screen, there’s no doubt who should play the Giants star in his years as a Pirate: Eddie Murphy. Seriously. Or Jimmy “DYNOMITE” Walker, perhaps. You can hit … Read More »

Joe and Chicken

by maskedblogger

So why GI Joe and the Rubber Chicken? Well… we have very long history. As I’ve mentioned in one of my previous blog posts, I will do anything for a costume. Anything. And that’s how I came to meet the rubber chicken. The Rubber chicken was part of a ridiculous Halloween ensemble circa 2001. I won’t get into the gory details, because as I’ve also said … the Lighter Side is PG-13. And we’re still proud of that. GI Joe … Read More »
